A superb, tiny and rare hooded wall clock with alarmwork, six-inch dial, beautifully made about 1765 by Robert Croome of Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire, who married in 1762 and died in 1768 aged only about thirty. This is one of only three clocks so far documented as made by him during his very short working life. Both are hooded alarm clocks. This clock is in its original hood, made most unusually of walnut tree.
Left: dial pictured after cleaning. Right: movement before restoration.
