A handsome eight-day clock in oak made in the 1730s by John Mercer of Hythe in Kent, who was born in 1697, was apprenticed in 1715 to Thomas Barrett of Lewes, Sussex, and worked in Hythe till his death in 1782. Pictured before restoration.
